Graduateship Phase-Out
As a result of changing trends in the nature of marketing education in Ireland, and the ready availability of a wide range of excellent marketing courses and qualifications, the Marketing Institute of Ireland has been phasing out its Graduateship programme. The Institute remains committed to the cause of marketing education, and will continue to operate alternative models of educational involvement including increased collaboration and partnerships with other education providers at various levels.
The following are the details of the phasing-out arrangements:
1. There was no new intake into Stage 1 of the programme (the first year of the Foundation Certificate in Marketing) in 2009/10 and the final sitting of examinations for Stage 1 was held in 2010.
2. There was no new intake into
Stage 2 of the programme (the second year of the
Foundation Certificate in Marketing) in 2010/11 and the final sitting of examinations for Stage 2 was held in 2011.
3. There was no new intake into
Stage 3 of the programme (the
Diploma in Marketing) in 2011/12 and the final sitting of examinations for Stage 3 will be held in May and August 2012.
4.
Stage 4 of the programme (the
Graduateship year) will run as normal up to 2011/12 but there will not be an intake to this Stage in 2012/13. However the final sitting of examinations for Stage 4 will be held in 2013 to facilitate students who may need to repeat from 2011/12 or who have outstanding Stage 4 subjects from previous examination sittings.

The Marketing Graduateship
The Marketing Graduateship qualification of The Marketing Institute has long been one of the most widely-recognised professional qualifications in the Irish business world, and our graduates have over the years ascended to key senior positions in all industry sectors across the country.
This qualification has been a route to Graduate Membership of the Institute, a status which bears evidence of having satisfied the examiners in a demanding and comprehensive course of study. Graduate members remain entitled to use the professional designation letters "MMII (Grad)" after their name.
Because marketing is not just academic, but a practical business discipline, this programme has significant practical content by means of research projects and case studies, aimed at providing the student with both the background theory and the practical expertise to successfully undertake a full range of marketing functions.

Stages of the Graduateship
This four-year programme is designed to equip students with multi-disciplinary skills that are relevant to the modern global marketplace, and successful completion is recognised by employers as evidence of a well-informed and fully trained marketer.
Upon completion of the first two stages, which normally require study over a two-year period, students are awarded a Foundation Certificate in Marketing. Upon completion of Stage 3, the Diploma in Marketing is awarded. And then upon completion of Stage 4, the Marketing Graduateship is awarded.

Student Membership of the Institute
All those registered on The Graduateship Programme automatically become student members of the Institute, and as such are encouraged to attend Institute seminars, conferences and other events. This opportunity to engage widely and network with practicing marketing professionals is one of the advantages of undertaking this programme.
Recognition of the Graduateship
• The Marketing Graduateship is widely recognised in the business world, both in Ireland and abroad, and in most companies it is regarded as a significant advantage in seeking a new job or promotion.
• It is recognised by many business schools (including DIT, Trinity, UCD, DCU and some UK universities) as being the professional equivalent of a primary degree for the purpose of postgraduate study.
• It is recognised by the European Marketing Confederation, which represents the marketing profession across Europe.
• It is recognised by the Revenue Commissioners for the purpose of tax relief on fees for part-time or distance study.
Modes of Study:
There are two routes to completion of the Graduateship programme.
(1) By Tuition
By this route, students must (a) register with the Marketing Institute,
and (b) enrol in an approved college. (N.B. These are two separate procedures). Enrolment takes place in September/October. Registration Forms for The Marketing Institute are available from the end of August and must be returned by October 22, 2010.
Read more on Registration.....You should contact the
college directly for details of enrolment dates, stages offered, timing of lectures, and tuition fees. Most of the colleges offer the programme on a part-time basis, which involves attending lectures two nights per week for three hours each night. As there are four subjects in each stage, this amounts to one lecture per week in each subject. We would envisage that students would need to spend another six hours per week on private study. Some colleges offer tuition on a full-time basis for school leavers.
(2) By Distance Learning
For those who have time scheduling restraints, a more flexible option is to complete the Graduateship Programme through distance learning, and this is a route that is growing in popularity. In this case, students register directly with the Institute and receive all the necessary elements of the programme: specially written course materials; essential texts in each subject; examination facility in May; revision weekends; past examination papers; tutorials; and most importantly, tutor support.
