EXAMINATION REGULATIONS AND TIMETABLE
Examinations take place in May and August each year.
Download the 2012 Exam Timetable. Please note that the May 2012 examinations will be run from Tuesday to Friday (inclusive) due to the Bank Holiday on Monday, 7 May. The August 2012 examinations will run as normal from Monday to Thursday (inclusive). All subjects in a stage may be taken in one sitting or divided between two. Students should note that prizes and compensation are available only to those who take all subjects and the project in the same sitting. Students may attempt examinations in any one subject up to six times. Examination centres are listed on the entry form. May and August past examination papers and projects, as well as the Examiner’s Report on each, are available.

May ExaminationsStudents must register for the examinations and pay the appropriate fee by March 1, 2012. Thereafter a late fee of €35 is imposed. The examination fees are: €50 for the first subject/project and €20 for each additional subject/project. May examination fees cannot be transferred to August, nor can they be refunded. May 2012 Examination Application forms will
not be mailed automatically to all students. It is the student's responsibility to check the dates on the website and download the form. If a student does not have access to the web, he/she can contact us and we can mail one to them.

August Examinations
If you have not successfully completed your May examinations, the August Examination. It is the student's responsibility to check the dates on the website and download the form. If a student does not have access to the web, he/she can contact us and we can mail one to them. Students must register for the examinations and pay the appropriate fee by July 27, 2012. Thereafter a late fee of €35 is imposed. The fees are the same as for the May examinations. They cannot be transferred to the following year, nor can they be refunded.
RESULTS
Results from the May examinations will be mailed on June 15, 2012 and on September 7. 2012 for the August examinations to the home address you give us on your registration form. If you change your address during the year, please inform the Institute in writing, quoting your student number. Results will not be given over the telephone nor to personal callers.
APPEALS PROCEDURE
If your result in one subject is seriously out of line with all your other results, and seriously out of line with your own recollection of your performance on the day, you may apply for a recheck within a week of receipt of your results. The deadline for a Recheck Application for the May 2012 examinations is June 29, 2012.
This checks that:
• The required number of questions has been attempted.
• All attempts up to the number required have been marked.
• All pages relevant to an answer have been accounted for.
• The marks have been correctly added and transferred to the front of the script.
If a discrepancy emerges in the course of this process, in terms of marking or in terms of adding, it is rectified. If content issues are involved, the script is returned to the Examiner for review. The recheck fee is €50 per script. It is refunded if an error is discovered.

Grades, not marks, will appear on your results sheet. Grade D is a pass in each subject/project. Grades do not appear on your certificate.
COMPENSATION
Compensation is only available in one subject/project and only when all subjects and the project in one stage are presented in the same examination sitting*. In order to compensate, a candidate must have four passes and have obtained a grade of E in the subject/project to be compensated and at least double the deficiency in another subject. Compensation is decided by the Exam Board and the results will indicate compensation (+). Candidates do not apply for compensation.
*A candidate with an exemption in a stage is not eligible for compensation in that stage.
PROGRESSION
Students may carry one component i.e. one subject or the project forward from one stage to the next.
GRADUATION AND PRIZES
The Graduation ceremony is held in Dublin in either late November/early December each year. In addition to the presentation of Graduateships, Diplomas and Certificates, prizes are given in various subjects. Prizes are also presented to the best Certificate and Diploma student and the Graduate of the Year. To be eligible for a prize, a student must have successfully completed all components (subjects and project) in the May sitting (i.e. minimum D grade and no exemptions) and achieve the highest percentage mark in the subject in question (or highest aggregate mark for overall Graduate/Diploma/Certificate awards).
