National University of Ireland, Galway Scoop West’s Top Marketing Prize
Galway Thursday 3rd December 2009- The National University of Ireland, Galway has been named the Overall Winner in the Marketing Institute of Ireland West Region’s Annual Awards at a gala awards luncheon attended by over 160 people in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Galway on Thursday December 3rd. They receive win a bumper €30,000 prize package of marketing and business supports from leading business supports from leading west of Ireland companies.
Other prize winners included Galway based charity Cope who won the Award for Charity/Not for Profit Organisations, the Town Hall Theatre Galway who were awarded the Small Business Marketing Award and Lets Do It Galway who were honored in the Tourism Marketing Category.

Now in their 8th year the MII West Region Marketing Awards are the premier independent awards programme available to marketers in the West of Ireland and attracted an initial entry of over 80 from businesses and companies operating in Galway Mayo and Roscommon. This year several new awards categories were added creating eleven categories that companies, teams or individuals could enter.
Adjudicators for the prestigious awards included Dr. Chris Coughlan, Dr. Aidan Daly, Michael Earls, Pearce Flannery, Padraic O’Maille, Monica Newsom and Anthony Ryan.
Speaking at the Awards Ceremony, Chairperson of the Marketing Institute of Ireland West Region Emma Dillon-Leetch congratulated the National University of Ireland, Galway on their very talented team efforts in outstanding marketing development.
“The Marketing Institute of Ireland West Region Awards is the premier independent awards programme for companies and businesses in the West of Ireland today. The National University of Ireland has demonstrated an innovative approach to marketing within business and is a worthy winner of the overall top prize,” she said.
In 2009 the University’s Marketing Team led a major brand development project with the aim of repositioning the University and creating a strong visual identity to differentiate NUIG Galway from its competitors.
Significant measurable successes as a result of the University’s outstanding marketing activity saw NUIG show a substantial increase of 13.1% in CAO First Preference applications- a growth of more than double that of the University Sector and the highest year of increase of all the Universities. The University was also named University of the Year 2009 by the Sunday Times.
NUIG’s prize includes provision of legal services from Trade Secrets Limited, pr consultancy from PRWORKS, accountancy services from DFS Accountants and Business Advisors, online marketing support from Your Marketing Dept, the design and development of a customised website from FitzGerald Design and Marketing and online job advertising from RecruitDirect.ie
In addition they also receive print and broadcast advertising from The Connacht Tribune and Galway Bay fm, business coaching from Arcadia Business Coaching, virtual office facilities from Vision and Business Centre and design and print from SNAP Printing.
