Michael Carey FMII
Chairman of the Board
 
Michael Carey joined The Marketing Institute of Ireland in 1985 and became a fellow in 2005, the year in which he also won the E&Y Industry Entrepreneur of the Year. He was president of the Institute from 2006 until 2008. Michael has built his career from a solid early foundation in marketing. After graduating from University College Dublin with a B.Comm and a Masters in Marketing, he took up a marketing role with Bachelors. His career has taken him through marketing director roles at C&C and Jacobs, as well as managing director positions in Ireland and the UK at Kelloggs, Fox’s Biscuits and Evian/Volvic. His current role as executive chairman and majority shareholder of Jacob Fruitfield Food Group encompasses responsibility for sales revenues of €100m, over 500 employees and a stable of household name brands. Michael is also a director of the Consumer Foods Board of Bord Bia, and a director of Traidlinks, the NGO which promotes enterprise in the developing world.

 
 

Tom Trainor MMII
Chief Executive

Tom Trainor became chief executive in November 2005, having previously held global revenue responsibilities with Trintech as executive vice president, and with Kindle Banking Systems as international sales director. Prior to that he was sales director with consultancy firm Cambridge Technology Partners in New York. He had previously established Eircom’s corporate business sales organisation, subsequent to holding a number of management roles in Bank of Ireland Group. Tom is a languages honours graduate with postgraduate qualifications in international marketing. He holds an International Executive MBA from Smurfit Business School at UCD, where he also completed the Diploma in Corporate Governance in 2008. He has completed an executive programme at Harvard Business School. Tom is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, where he also holds Chartered Marketer status. He is a member of the board of the European Marketing Confederation.



Damian Devaney FMII

Damian Devaney is marketing director at O2 Ireland, and a leading brand marketing practitioner. He is a veteran of fast moving consumer goods marketing, having previously been marketing director at Coca-Cola Ireland, where he had responsibility for the full Coca-Cola portfolio in Ireland, where he worked mainly on the big brands, Coke and Diet Coke, and on Powerade. Damian previously held a variety of senior marketing leadership roles in Gilbeys and Diageo, where he became well-known in the industry through his management of key brands such as Guinness and Baileys, demonstrating his skills in strategy, media and masterbrand advertising. Damian has studied at the University of Limerick and at Smurfit Business School at University College Dublin. He holds an Honours BA Degree in European Studies, and a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration. Damian was chairman of the Marketing Institute of Ireland in 2005-06, and he is also a fellow of the Institute.


 

Maria Mahon FMII

Maria Mahon has held marketing and business leadership roles in the financial, media, tourism and technology sectors. Today she advises organisations on how to manage and grow their business at home and overseas. From 1999 to 2006 Maria was group chief executive of Saongroup.com, which includes market leading online recruitment sites across the world. Prior to this, Maria was Marketing Director with 98FM. Previously she was international brand manager with Bord Fáilte, and she had formerly been marketing manager with Irish Life. Maria holds a B.Comm from NUI Galway, and a Masters in Business Studies from Smurfit Business School at UCD. In 2003, Maria was shortlisted for E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year, and in 2006 she was awarded the BOI Business Alumni award in NUIG. Maria is a non-executive director of a number of leading companies in Ireland including Saongroup.com, Communicorp and ICAN. Maria was chairman of the Marketing Institute of Ireland in 2006/07, and she is a fellow of the Institute.



Michael Killeen FMII (Grad.)

Michael Killeen is managing director of Dialogue, the direct response advertising agency, which he founded in 1994. Michael is a graduate of the Marketing Institute of Ireland, and Marquette University, Milwaukee in the US. His early career was in the US, where he developed his marketing experience working with blue-chip companies such as GE, IBM, Miller and Harley Davidson before returning home in 1991. Michael set up the award-winning unit in Dimension Advertising that helped position Ireland in the international direct marketing arena. He remains to the fore in developing Ireland’s marketing standing internationally. He is international chairman of the John Caples Awards in New York, and a director of the Inter Direct network which comprises 42 agencies around the world. Committed to the cause of marketing education in Ireland, Michael is an active lecturer in marketing disciplines. He has held office in the Marketing Institute of Ireland, including chairing the Education Committee. He is a fellow of the Institute.



Tim Brosnan FMII

Tim Brosnan has spent most of his management career in the information and communications technology sector. His recent responsibilities have involved leadership of programmes to devise innovative product and service propositions for Eircom’s largest corporate account customers, and the development of strategic partnerships to enhance the company's enterprise product offering. Tim has delivered key projects on new market entry strategies and international benchmarking of market segmentation approaches, and he has specialised in knowledge enhancement for the security, environment and local government sectors. Tim has also held a number of sales team leadership positions and he has been extensively involved in the training of senior sales professionals in sophisticated selling techniques, account management and negotiation skills. With a first class honours degree in Business, Tim also lectures in management practice. He chairs the Institute's south west regional branch, and he is a fellow of the Institute. 



Mary Lambkin FMII
Mary Lambkin is professor of Marketing at University College Dublin. She has written extensively on this subject in academic journals, and also writes commentaries on marketing topics of contemporary interest for professional publications, including Marketing Age. Having originally graduated with a Social Science degree, Mary quickly realised that her interests lay in the world of marketing, and she spent six years with Unilever. She undertook an MBA at UCD for which she received the Charles Harvey Award. Her research interests centre on the evolution of competition in consumer markets with a particular focus on branding, and this was the subject of her PhD which she received from the University of Toronto. Mary is a non-executive director of Citibank Europe plc, and Barclays Insurance Dublin. She is also on the board of the Affordable Homes Partnership. Mary is chairman of Copy Clearance Ireland which pre-vets advertising appearing in the Irish media. She is a fellow of the Institute.
